Star Metals Company is a mainstay in the mining and trading of :
Tin
Tin is a soft, malleable and ductile metal, silvery-white in colour and highly crystalline. Tin has many uses. It is very shiny and is therefore used to coat other metals to prevent corrosion. Tin is used particularly in the preparation of alloys (bronze, brass), as an antioxidant (tinning) and, a non-harmful metal, for the packaging of food products (tin cans, tin foil).
Tantalum
Tantalum is a shiny, silvery metal that is highly resistant to corrosion. Tantalum is widely and mainly used in the production of electronic components. Its alloys are exceptionally strong and are therefore used for turbine blades, rocket nozzles and the noses of supersonic aircraft.
Tungsten
Having the highest melting point, tungsten, a shiny, silvery-white metal, is alloyed with other metals to strengthen them. It is used in many high temperature applications, such as arc welding electrodes and heating elements in high temperature furnaces.
Copper
Copper is a soft red-orange coloured metal that takes on a shiny metallic lustre and can be easily worked and drawn into wires. It is mainly used in electrical equipment such as cables and motors as it easily conducts heat and electricity. It is also used in industrial machinery and in construction.
Colbalt
A shiny, silvery-blue metal, cobalt is known for its magnetic properties. Combined with aluminium and nickel, it allows to manufacture very powerful magnets. Radioactive cobalt 60 is used to treat cancer. The captivating blue of cobalt marked an entire era of Chinese ceramic art. Today, demand increases, as this metal is used in rechargeable batteries and for the exploitation of renewable energies. This is why cobalt is set to become a key raw material in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Gold
Gold is a soft metal widely known for its yellow colour. It is widely used in jewellery. It is sometimes transformed into very fine sheets called gold leaf and is used in art and as architectural ornament.
Lithium
Soft, gray, silvery metal and the lightest of the solid elements. It is used to manufacture electric cells and rechargeable or high-voltage storage batteries, Glass and ceramics industry, it is also used in medicine and nuclear physics.
Manganese
Transformed into a manganese alloy, it is mainly used in the manufacture of carbon steel, which it solidifies and deoxidises, in particular for construction (beams, body sheets, pipeline tubes, etc.) and automobile applications.
